Alternatives to the been app

Store pages read on 4 October 2026  ·  by Aki Takashima, Shiori Studio

The closest alternatives to been are the other maps you fill in by hand: Visited, Mark O'Travel, Pin Traveler, Stampie, Skratch, Places Been and Countries Been. If the part you dislike is tapping every country yourself, the alternative is a different kind of app: Mapsake builds the map from your photos, and Driftlog records the countries as you travel.

Where I stand. I make Driftlog, one of the apps on this page, so weigh what follows accordingly. I have tried to say where the other apps are the better choice.

A note on the name: several apps are called been. This page is about been by VINCI APPS, the one with 9,640 US ratings.

First: when been is the right choice

been does one thing. You tick the countries and US states you have visited, and you get a map. It takes minutes, it is on iPhone and Android, and its US App Store page lists an item called Premium Features at $2.29 next to a $19.99 yearly plan. If you remember where you have been and countries are all you want, it is hard to beat, and you do not need anything else on this page.

It stops being enough when you want cities, when you want dates, or when you cannot actually remember every country.

The trade is real. A map that fills itself in needs either access to your photos or Always location permission, and a map you tick by hand needs neither. If that is a line you will not cross, stay with a manual map.

How this page was made. I make Driftlog, one of the apps on this page. Prices, privacy labels and ratings were read from each app's own US App Store page on 4 October 2026, and Android availability from Google Play. I have not tested every app here; what I say about other people's apps is what their store pages say. A store page shows at most ten in-app purchases, and prices change, so follow the link before you decide. Nobody paid to be on this page. If something is wrong or out of date, email me at shiori.sutudio@gmail.com and I will fix it. The full table of twenty apps is on the comparison page.
