1. Information collected and how it is used

• Location (background). With your permission, Driftlog accesses your device's location in the background to record the countries, cities, and dates you visit. This data is used solely to build your personal travel log and is stored only on your device.
• Photos (EXIF metadata only). If you grant photo access, Driftlog reads only the EXIF metadata embedded in your photos — the location and date — to associate places with your travel records. Your photos themselves are never uploaded, copied, transmitted, or stored. Only the metadata is read; the image files never leave your device through Driftlog.
• Notifications. Driftlog uses notifications to show the current recording status (for example, whether location recording is active). These notifications are informational and transmit no data.

2. The only thing that leaves your device (reverse geocoding)

To convert raw coordinates into a human-readable place name — for example, turning a latitude/longitude pair into "Lisbon, Portugal" — Driftlog sends those coordinates to Apple's reverse-geocoding service (CLGeocoder, the geocoder built into iOS). This is the only circumstance in which any information leaves your device.

Those coordinates are sent exclusively to obtain a place name. Nothing else — not your broader location history, not your photos, not your travel records, and not any personal identifier — is ever transmitted externally.

3. What we never do

To be unambiguous, Driftlog does not do any of the following:

• Transmit your data to our own servers or to any provider (other than the reverse-geocoding request in Section 2)
• Require you to create an account or sign in
• Display advertising
• Use analytics, tracking, or profiling of any kind
• Sell, rent, or otherwise share your data with third parties

4. Data storage and deletion

All of your travel records and related data are stored only on your device. By default this data is excluded from device backups, so it is not copied to iCloud or any other backup location. Settings contains a switch, off by default, that includes your records in your own device backup so they survive a phone upgrade; if you turn it on, they travel inside your own encrypted backup and still reach no server of ours.

Because the data lives solely on your device, uninstalling Driftlog permanently and completely deletes all of your data. There is no copy elsewhere for us to retain or remove.

5. Permissions required

Driftlog requests the following permissions. Each is used only for the purpose described:

• Location ("Always" / background): so the app can record the countries and cities you visit even while running in the background.
• Photo / EXIF access: to read only the EXIF metadata (location and date) of your photos. Photos are never uploaded or copied.
• Notifications: to display the current recording status.

You may grant or revoke these permissions at any time in your device settings. Revoking a permission may limit related functionality (for example, revoking location access stops automatic travel recording).

6. In-app purchases

Driftlog offers a single one-time purchase through the App Store. Payments are processed entirely by Apple under its terms. The provider (Shiori Studio) does not receive your payment card information or any other payment credentials; that information is handled solely by the relevant store.

7. Children's privacy

Driftlog is not directed at children. We do not knowingly or intentionally collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided information through the app in a way that concerns you, please contact us using the details below.

8. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be announced on this page, and the "Last updated" date above will be revised accordingly. We encourage you to review this page periodically.
